Help

This section should resolve most questions.

I can't connect

You cannot connect if the Status indicator is OFF because this means the server is not turned on.

What if the Status indicator shows that the host server is ON, but you still can't connect? The status indicator operates by testing that it can access a web page running on the host web server. It will only display an ON indicator if the host is turned on and the web server is running.

However, it cannot test the status of the FTP Server software which is used to manage your account. It is possible that the FTP Server is not active, even though the host computer is available. If you suspect this to be the case, email the administrator.

Other:
   - Check your configuration in the FTP Client
   - Check for are any firewall messages blocking your connection

FTP Client Logon

To access data storage, you will need the address (ie hostname), and your username and password.

When entering the address, do not preface the address with ftp, http or www (eg just use servername.domainname.com)

'Setup' describes how to configure your client to access or upload your data.

Logon with Windows Explorer

It is also possible to user Windows Explorer, but you need to remember that whilst you will still need to use your username and password to logon, these are transmitted unsecured and so are any upload/download transmissions that you make.

In this case, you need to preface the address and use ftp://servername.domainname.com . You will then be presented with a logon screen for your username and password.

Password

To request a password reset, contact Phil Gray.

If you use the 'encryption at server' feature of SmartFTP Pro, the administrator is not able to retrieve your encryption key, so keep it in a safe place.

File size

There is a maximum file size of 2Gb - this is a system limit imposed by Internet Information Services server software. We will be testing whether FileZilla overcomes this limitation.

There is no limit on total storage or folder sizes.

Throttle

The administrator may have limited your connection speed to smooth out demand on the server. If you think that transfers are especially slow, discuss with administrator.
